Monroe Station

USA / Florida / Chokoloskee / Loop Road (CR 94), 50910
abandoned / shut down, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places

Monroe Station was a bustling restaurant and gas station that opened in the 1930s, and was a successful "watering hole" through the 1970's. Once Big Cypress took ownership of the land in 1974, the gas station was removed for environmental reasons. The restaurant closed down in 2005 due to damage from Hurricane Wilma.

Monroe Station is on the National Register of Historic Places. Monroe Station had a nice little role in two movies: A low-budget movie called "Savages from Hell" was filmed here in 1968, and the movie Gone Fishin' in 1997.
