residence, plantation, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places

Historic estate which was established in 1838 by Thomas and Lavinia Jones as a 1,400-acre plantation. It was later owned by Col. Oliver Hazard Payne who commissioned Stanford White of the firm McKim, Mead & White to perform alterations. In 1916, it was bequeathed to Payne Whitney who was his nephew.
