Manimuthar Irrigation Main Channel.

MANIMUTHARU MAIN CANAL - மணிமுத்தாறு 80 அடி மதகு -
The Manimuthar Reservoir was constructed in the year 1958.
The Manimuthar project comprises of two irrigation channels namely Perungal Canal and Right Bank Main Channel. The total command area of the project is 10,400 hecatre (CCA) and canal wise area details are given below.
The primary object of Manimuthar Reservoir is to supplement supplies to existing ayacut of Tambiraparani System especially in the ayacut at tail end.
The balance left over in the reservoir after meeting the requirement of the existing irrigation is to supplement supplies to the existing ayacuts under the commandable rain-fed tanks situated in Ambasamudram, Nanguneri, Tirunelveli, Srivaikuntam and Tiruchendur taluks through Manimuthar main canal which takes off at the right flank of the dam and to give supply to 308 tanks in the command area.
Before the construction of the Dam, this canal took from Thalai Anai Dam and irrigated the land of Singampatti Zamindari of Ambasamudram taluk.
After construction of Manimuthar dam, this canal above the dam lies with within the water spread area and is in submerged condition when the reservoir level is 15.24 m.
The total length of the canal is 12.40 m and ayacut area covered under this canal is 1,073 ha fed both by direct sluices and through 29 tanks.

மணிமுத்தாறு அணையில் பிரதான கால்வாய் மூலம் 25,434 ஏக்கர் நிலங்களும், பெருங்கால் மதகு மூலம் 2,700 ஏக்கர் நிலங்களும் பாசனம் பெறுகிறது.
மணிமுத்தாறு அணையின் நீர்மட்டம் 80அடிக்கு அதிகமாக இருந்தால்தான் பிரதான கால்வாய் மூலம் பாசனம் பெறும்.
முதல், 2 மற்றும் 3,4 ஆவது ரீச் குளங்களுக்கு தண்ணீர் திறந்து விட முடியும்.
பெருங்கால் பாசனத்திற்கு 40 அடிக்கு அதிகமாக நீர் இருப்பு இருந்தால் திறக்கப்படும்.
பெருங்கால் மூலம் பாசனம் பெறும் நிலங்களுக்கு ஜூன் முதல் தேதியில் தண்ணீர் திறந்து விடப்படுகிறது.
இதன்மூலம் மணிமுத்தாறு, ஜமீன்சிங்கம்பட்டி, அயன்சிங்கம்பட்டி, தெற்குபாப்பான்குளம், தெற்குகல்லிடைக்குறிச்சி, பொட்டல் பகுதியில் 2,700 ஏக்கர் நிலங்கள் பாசனம் பெறுகிறது.
இதன் மூலம் சேமிக்கப்படும் நீர் நெல்லை மாவட்டத்தின் வறட்சிப் பகுதிகளான தெற்கு வீரவநல்லூர், கரிசல்பட்டி மற்றும் பச்சையாறு பாசனம் பெறாத நாங்குநேரி தாலுகாவின் வடக்குப் பகுதிகள் வழியாக மிகவும் வறட்சிப் பகுதிகளான திசையன்விளை மற்றும் அதன் சுற்று வட்டாரப் பகுதிகளுக்கு குடிநீராகவும் விவசாயத்திற்கும் பயன்படுகிறது.
