Church of Saint Demetrius (Makovo)

Bulgaria / Razgrad / Loznica / Makovo
 church, orthodox christianity

The temple "St. Dimitar Solunsky "was built on the site of an older temple that existed here. The original temple was built by Christian settlers in 1899 in a building rebuilt for that purpose, which later collapsed.
The main stone for the new temple was laid on May 8, 2002. Author of the project is arch. G. Tsoneva from Varna. Contractor of the construction is Strem Ltd. and the funding is provided by the Directorate of Religious Denominations at the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria, Golyamo Vranovo and many private donors. The organizer of the construction and decoration of the temple is Radka Karselova from the village of Dralfa.
The newly built temple is crossed with a second dome-bell tower above the narthex. The wood-carved iconostasis is the work of Sasho Nikolov from Targovishte, placing the preserved icons of the old temple in need of restoration. They bear the names of their donors, residents of the village.
