  • Abdul Haq square was named after the famous Pushtoon Anti-Taliban commander from the eastern province of Nangahar. He was executed by the Taliabans days before the US invasion of Afghanistan. He was arrested in Logar Province and was executed publically in 2001 following verdict from the Taliban paramount leader Mullah Omar. Afghan president and other Mujahideen leaders praised him and Afghan government renamed the Square in his honor. This square is the gateway to Kabul from people coming from the eastern provinces of Laghman, Nangarhar, Nurestan and Konar. The famous government made flats " Makroryans" are also located around this square.
