Quintette Coal's Windy Pit was mined between 1997 and 2000 when it closed due to low prices. The area contains significant reserves. Teck Resources Ltd plans to reopen Quintette in 2013, producing 3 to 4 million tonnes of clean coal per year from Windy Pit and (later) the adjacent Window Pit.
