Established in the 1860s, St. Joseph is among the oldest neighborhoods in Indianapolis. St. Joseph traditionally has been a mix of residences and service businesses catering to Downtown. Jim Jones, the minister who led his followers in a mass suicide in Jonestown, Guyana, once led services at a former synagogue at Delaware and 10th streets. The neighborhood, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is considered a Local Preservation District by the Indiana Historic Preservation Commission.

Style of homes: Diverse, but mostly Victorian, Italianate and Carpenter Gothic as well as some row houses.
