The design of the park was inspired by Bach's First Suite for Unaccompanied Cello.
The idea for a park arose when landscape designer Julie Messervy collaborated with cellist Yo Yo Ma on a television project called The Music Garden. The project was offered to Boston, but the plans fell through and was relocated to Toronto.
