High School "Ion Barbu" was established on September 1, 1971 as "High School No 4" Pitesti. The peculiarity of this school, compared to other schools in the county, consisted of intensive German language teaching, which is why the high school became known (unofficially) as the German School.
In 1992, the school was named "Ion Barbu", after the mathematician and writer Ion Barbu (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ion_Barbu)
