Yoghurt Museum (Studen Izvor)

The museum is located in the village of Studen Izvor, near the town of Tran, and near the home of Dr. Stamen Grigorov. In 1905 Dr. Stamen Grigorov first described lactic acid microorganism that causes fermentation necessary for obtaining Bulgarian yogurt. He called it 'A bacillus'. Later, the micro-organism was called Lactobacillus bulgaricus in honor of the discoverer of his homeland. The museum was opened in 2007 and is organized in the house. The first floor houses the living room, which represents the traditional interior decoration of a typical Bulgarian house from the mid 19th century. On the second floor are the library and exhibition hall. The exhibition hall is shown a model of the mechanism for obtaining raw milk. In the library you can find all sorts of materials related to the production of yogurt, its implementation, its industrial production, the work of Professor Akiyoshi Hosono who study anticancer properties of milk because of Lactobacillus Bulgaricus. On the walls hung posters, which describe the history of yogurt, souring domestic and artisanal production of yogurt; industrial technologies for yogurt, food and biological value of the Bulgarian yoghurt. There can see the first publication of Dr. Stamen Grigorov in French, printed in 1905. At the opening of the Museum, Tran is held the first Festival of Bulgarian yogurt, rich folklore program, drawing competitions and essay "Yoghurt - Bulgarian name of longevity" and competition for the best homemade yogurt milk.
