Target 3 Gold Mine

South Africa / Free State / Kutlwanong /

This was the North Division of the President Steyn Gold Mine when it was purchased by Pamodzi Gold and when Pamodzi failed Harmony Gold purchased all of their Free State assets. The North Division fell under management of Target and the President Steyn South Division, shaft 2 (Steyn 2) became part of the Bambanani Mine. Other Steyn shafts remained dormant.

The Target mine was officially opened in May 2002. On the closure of the nearby Lorraine mine in August 1998, the Lorraine 1 and 2 shafts were transferred to Target, and became the Target 1 and 2 shafts. The latter is dormant. With the acquisition of Pamodzi Gold’s Free State assets, the Target 3 shaft (formerly Lorraine 3) has been included in the operational management of Target. At the end of June 2010, Target (including Target 3) reported mineral reserves of 2.801 million ounces of gold and mineral resources of 12.496 million ounces.
