Namhae Yongmunsa, Dragon Gate Temple, was first built by Wonhyo - date unknown. Yongmunsa is said to be the place where the Maitreya Buddha first cleansed his body after being born. Yongmunsa was burned to the ground during the Imjin War from 1592 to 1598. Monks from this temple served to defend Korea from the invading Japanese and was designated a temple of national defense, now preserved by the Korean government.
