Microsoft Corporation is an American public multinational corporation headquartered in Redmond, Washington, USA that develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports a wide range of products and services predominantly related to computing through its various product divisions. It is the world’s largest software company and is run by a board of directors made up of mostly company outsiders, as is customary for publicly traded companies. Board members are elected every year at the annual shareholders' meeting using a majority vote system.

Microsoft established its Malaysian business in 1992. It has invested heavily in Malaysia with reported sum of RM26 million in 2006 alone. The company provides tools, training and technology in its effort to establish software development as a key engine of growth for the Malaysian economy. It is estimated that some 50,000 jobs have been created in the software and services sector in the country as a result of Microsoft’s initiatives.
