military, fortification
US Civil War Confederate earthwork fort built among the ruins of Brunswick Town, now part of Brunswick Town State Historic Site.
After the fall of Fort Fisher in early 1865, Fort Anderson, with its 10 heavy coastal guns remained the last major impediment to Union forces trying to approach Wilmington.
After a short fight, Confederate forces fell back to a last-ditch defensive line right outside Wilmington.
