There is another village by the name 'Pudur', that lies 2 kms from here: one km along the highway to Chittoor, then another 1 km after turning right at Mettukulam, just after the Anjaneyar temple.

So when the highway between Vellore and Chittoor was built in early 1950's, the distance marker stones used the name 'Kalpudur' to describe this place, to distinguish this from the original 'Pudur' that came to be then known as 'Peria Pudur'.
