Khuseleka Mining Unit

South Africa / North West / Rustenburg /
 mine, platinum mine/processing

This is the Khuseleka Platinum Mining Unit (Shaft Zone) and it is part of the Rustenburg Operations of Sibanye-Stillwater; who purchased the assets from Anglo American in September 2015 in a R4.5bn ($330m) deal. Anglo American previously had long ownership of the mine as part of its Rustenburg Mines before restructuring and selling the entire loss making Division.

The mine has 2 shafts, Khuseleka 1 shaft which was formerly known as Townlands Shaft, and the Khuseleka 2 shaft which was formerly known as Boschfontein Incline Shaft. The shafts were renamed when Anglo still owned the operations. In the current operations Khuseleka 2 is idled and only Khuseleka 1 is operational with the lowest working level being approximately 927m below surface, mining both the Merensky and UG2 reefs.
