St. Patrick Parish was founded in 1808 as the first Catholic parish in the City of Pittsburgh. The current St. Patrick Church, dedicated in 1936, features an Irish-style round tower which contains a chunk of the Blarney Stone from Blarney Castle in Ireland. The church is now part of the St. Patrick-St. Stanislaus Kostka parish, the result of a parish merger in 1993.

During the Great Depression the church was led by Father James Cox, pro-labor activist who ran for President as the "Jobless Party" candidate in 1932.
