Shelby is a city in and the county seat of Toole County, Montana, United States.[4] The population was 3,169 at the 2020 census.
A major stop for the Great Northern Railroad (and still serviced by Amtrak.) Named in 1891 for Peter P. Shelby, general manager of the Montana-Central Railroad. Geologist Gordon Campbell is credited with the dicovery of oil in 1921 or 1922. Famous site of the Jack Demsey / Tommy Gibbons prize fight, July 4, 1923.
