Kamensk-Shakhtinsky (also spelled Kamensk-Sachtinskij) - city, southwestern of Rostov region (province), on the Seversky ("Northern") Donets River. Founded in 1671 as a Cossack settlement, it became a city in 1927. Once a major coal-mining center of the eastern Donets Basin, it primarily manufactures agricultural and mining machinery, artificial fibers, and glass. Population — 89,657 (2017); 87,113 (2021) including the population of administrative territories of Zavodskoy and Likhovskoy. Total area — 16/0 thousand hectares.

Kamensk is situated 125 kilometers from Rostov-on-Don on the federal highway Moscow-Rostov (M-4). The city’s location has a lot of benefits due to the crossing of all key transport routes: highways, railways, pipelines as well as riverways.

Kamensk is an educational, cultural, and sports center. It includes 20 secondary schools, three technical schools, two technical colleges, two colleges, one institute, three branches of federal and regional institutions of higher educations.
