Assisi Shanthi Kendra at Karukutty in Ernakulam District, Kerala in the arch eparchy of Ernakulam – Angamaly was canonically established as a Friary on 16 December 1998 on an area of approximately eight acres of land. On December 8, 1999, the main Church dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi was consecrated and blessed as a memorial of the Jubilee Year 2000.

The compound of Assisi Shanthi Kendra includes also a Franciscan Centre in the spirit of Assisi, where various religious and other funtions take place. It is equipped with an over-powered sound system so that the whole of Karukutty can know of the going ons in the building. The organizers of the functions make it a point that the people in the houses nearby are disturbed to the maximum with the loud wailing and moaning. Relentless clapping, thumping of feet, screams, and other vulgar noises are a common occurrence here. Chanting and singing begins early in the morning and lasts till midnight or even past.

WARNING: PLEASE DO NOT try to take up residence in a 2 km radius of this building if you value peace and sound sleep.
