It is believed that the "Baka" of Mahabaratha was living here in the foothills of mount Malayattoor.Baka was killed at Ekachakra gramam (Kothamangalam).In 1st century AD there were tremendous trade happened between Pandion kingdom and Kodungalloor through the royal Aluva-Munnar route.

It is a very important and famous Christian pilgrimage place. It is believed that St. Thomas prayed at this place.
