Tehsil Purulia Sadar, District Purulia, Bengal, Bharat.

Purulia city was the principal city of Manbhum district in Bihar province. On November 1, 1956 Manbhum was split into two districts, Purulia and Dhanbad. Dhanbad stayed in Bihar and Purulia became part of West Bengal. There was no Manbhum after that.

  • One interesting thing about my travel to Ranchi from Purulia by train was riding on narrow gauge railway line. The journey was not as smooth as the one using broad gauge. This narrow gauge railway was opened in 1907 and was converted to broad gauge in 1960. I hardly travelled by train between Ranchi and Purulia because there were many buses running between these two cities and I could catch the Purulia bus on Purulia Road in Ranchi. From Purulia I used to take train to go to Bero railway station.
