Another remnant of the Cross Florida Barge Canal project. This is an earthen dam constructed of the diggings from the adjacent sand pit. This damn marks the northern end of Lake Oklawaha. The original course of the Ocklawaha River can be seen past the dam.

According to an Ocala Star-Banner editorial of 02/25/2012, environmental groups are suing to have the dam destroyed, contending that "it blocks manatees and rare shortnose sturgeons from access to the river". Has any manatee or sturgeon ever been photographed trying to enter the Ocklawaha river at that point?
