This apartment building was constructed in 1882 by the architects V. P. Zagorsky and N. D. Strukov. The structure included two wings of the manor of the Golitsyn Princes whose main building still exists in the heart of the courtyard. In 1893 a fourth floor was added.

In this modest rooming house there lived basically minor officials, actors, doctors, musicians. In 1890s the composer V.S. Kalinnikov resided here, in 1900s – the well-known art critic N.S. Kruglikov who received many famous people including N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov, M.A.Vrubel, K.A.Korovin, F.I.Shalyapin and others rented an apartment here.
