Built 1928-9 as the Jonass department store, its Jewish owners fled the Nazis and the building was eventually converted to house the Reich Youth Organization. After the war, it was the headquarters of the SED party, and then the Institute of Marxism-Leninism. It was vacant from 1995 to 2010, when it reopened as the luxury members-only Soho House Berlin hotel.
