A village in Tamilnadu, (10 deg. 8'N, 77 deg. 17'E) is a scenic attraction on the edge of Kerala's prime tea growing region. Built in 1900, there once was a ropeway terminus here (hence the name) connecting with a road from Bodinayakanur -- critical to the development of the Munnar region by providing a relatively inexpensive transportation link to world tea markets from an otherwise barely accessible (pack animals) place. At various times a road, railroad and other ropeways connected this place to Munnar. Later roads to the plains made this ropeway obsolete (1971).
