The walled garden was created in 1864. It encloses 7 acres of land surrounded by a seven-foot-high wall. To the north are the survivers of the vast range of glass houses which produced fuit and flowers year round. 5000 pots of forced strawberries were produced here [apart from the strawberries growing outside during the warm months. The greenhouses also produced Nectarines, peaches, Grapes, tomatoes & Melons. Aswell as Mushroom houses there were a further range of glasshouses for flowers; each year saw 3000 lilies of the Valley, 1500 pointsettia plants as well as Orchids, Gardenias, and vast numbers of palms.
