There are seven inscriptions in the temple called suganathesvarar.According to the inscriptions available here the names of the God of this temple are TATTERI- MAHADEVAR and KUMBISVARAMUDAIYA-MAHADEVAR. Under the Pallava rule Kalathur was part of Damal nadu and Damal KKottam. When Parantaka I's rule Kalathur was called Panjirai -Kalathur.In the Chola regime Kalathur was named as Vikkiramasinga chaturvedimangalam in Dala nadu in the Damalkkottam in the sub division of the Jayankoda Chola mandalam.
