When constructed in 1928, this apartment building was occupied by employees of the tobacco industry.

Elena S. Bulgakova (1893-1970), the third wife and muse of the writer Mikhail Bulgakov, resided here. She was the prototype for Margarita in Bulgakov's most famous work, Master and Margarita.
