Blacksville 2 Mine is considered a West Virginia mine, even though the portal entrance is located in southwestern Pennsylvania. It produces coal from the Pittsburgh 8 Seam using one longwall system and three continuous mining machines. Coal is transported underground by conveyor belts to a skip hoist which lifts the coal to the preparation plant, located in northern West Virginia. Blacksville produced 5.3 million tons of coal in 2005.
