bridge, historic landmark
Bizetz Bridge is the first bridge built horizontally curved in Europe. It was inaugurated in 1905, to connect the city of Giurgiu and Ramadan port, with access over the canal of St. George. The bridge was designed and built by engineers Anghel Saligny and Ion Ionescu-Bizetz. The bridge was built for double track, road and railway and its construction was a European technical premiere. The bridge has become a historical monument and is now only open to pedestrian traffic due to implementation of a new bridge, work that was completed in 2005-2007.
