Ocotillo is also the meeting place for the non-profit group "Water Stations". Water Stations have been around for 16 years as of 2015. Water Stations were put in the Southern California Desert in the Imperial Valley Desert, Anza Borrego Park and surrounding areas along the 98 Freeway to provide water for stranded drivers on the side of the road so they could keep hydrated, while they waited for help. Overtime I believe that the use of these have lessened because vehicles now are far safer and reliable than cars once were.

The monument is used in various ways. The one and only would be to stay hydrated. I would suspect that these water stations are used at least 5-10 times a day. Water is refilled every time it is emptied by the water station group. The water station is a volunteer organization that provides one or more 55 gallon blue plastic barrels. No one is a safe driver, so these can be useful when there is no one there to help.

This monument represents a diverse set of people that are willing to help people they don’t even know. It shows how kind people really can be. It also shows how ungrateful people can be. Plenty of people were not for these water stations just because of who they were started by. When in actuality these water stations are provided by a broad set of people as well like Disneyland, theme parks, and parks around your city. So in several ways these water stations have brought up all valuable, problematic and controversial subjects within communities, towns, cities and states.
