  • Behind the area identified as Carvel there was a school building that looked very much like the one on 25A in St.James near the fire department but across the street. There was also a baseball field. What is now Branchaneli's was the Brooklyn Orphanage. West of there the office buildings on town line road replaced the General Store, which had gas pumps out front. I believe it may have also been the post office at one time. Hauppauge's "Main Street" contained the Village hall, the school house, several houses(some of which remain),the church, the general store. and the orphanage. What is now the gulf course was the Zorn Turkey Farm. Famous for providing Thanksgiving Aand Christmas Dinner for much of the north east coast and perhaps the White House. What is now Carvell was Zorn's Ice Cream in the 50's. The pool place was Hubie Burger(pre-McDonald's).
  • The photo here identifies the Route 111/ Townline merge looking west, not 347/Townline looking east
  • My wife, Patrisia Zorn's Grandfather owned the Turkey Farm, the Carvel, the Hubie Burger joint, and turned that into a pool supply place for his son Richard later on.
