Comprised primarily of First-generation Los Angeles Class Attack Submarines and the former USS Narwhal (SSN-671), this collection of decommissioned nuclear-powered Attack Submarines are awaiting their turn to enter the Ship/Submarine Recycling Program (SRP). An exclusive service performed only at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, the NSSRP receives defueled and deactivated ships into its facility at Drydock #1 where the entire nuclear reactor compartment of the ship is removed, isolated and encased for later shipment to the Hanford Reservation near Yakima, Washington. Once the reactor compartment has been removed, the remainder of the vessel's hull is parted out for reusable spares and the remainder is scrapped.
