Acquired by condemnation in 1899. Designated in honor of Col. George H. Ward, 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Inf., who was mortally wounded at Gettysburg, 2 July 1863.
Formerly home to the 16th Company, Coast Defenses of Puget Sound from 1919 to 1922, the 150th Coast Artillery Company from 1922 to 1924, and a caretaking detachment, 14th Coast Artillery from 1924 to 1941.
