  • Kunrathur is the birth place of Sekkizhar who wrote the famous periya puranam (which consists of life history 63 nayanmars). There are many temples situated in this place ..Nageshwararar temple called as ragu sthalam constructed by sekkizhar after visiting then(south) thirunagheshwaram near kumbakonam. Sekkizhar is also called as theyva pulavar and in memory of him every year sekkizhar thiruvizha is celebrated in the temple. Ponniyamman temple, Vembuli amman temple, Murugan malai koil (cine shooting spot).
