Raton Pass has been infamous since the days of the Santa Fe Trail. Today I-25 and US-85 cross the pass with its high elevation and steep grades. The pass is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), where it is designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark.

  • There is no cell phone reception through much of Raton Pass, and it has been known to have heavy snowfall well into the spring and early summer, so check the weather before heading over. The drive is beautiful.
