The church is located in the north- east , outside the town of Acqualagna (PU) .
The church takes its name from the family Pelingo that towards the end of the fourteenth century it wanted to build . Founded as a sacred oratorio of the Blessed Sacrament and to the Virgin Mary , the church was first dedicated to Santa Maria del Pelingo (for the presence of an image of the Virgin placed there around 1440 ) and later (late sixteenth century ) in St. Michael.
Being diminished over time, the attention of the faithful against the image of the Virgin , the oratory was gradually abandoned and forgotten. A great revival took place of worship since 1781 , following a strong earthquake , it was decided that the demolition of the building was severely damaged ; in fact, brought to light the original image of the Virgin Mary that had been covered with another painting , the same were attributed some miraculous healings ; therefore it was necessary to build a chapel to protect the image and accommodate the crowds of pilgrims who invoked the name of the Virgin Mary of Mercy.
The present building was begun around 1820 and consecrated in 1859.
Every year , on the eighth of September, this shrine is celebrated the feast of the Nativity of Our Lady.
Adjacent to the church is the accommodation " Casa del Pellegrino" .
