The largest remaining undisturbed granitic flat-rock outcrop in the Carolina Piedmont. The flat-rock vegetation includes 13 rare or endemic species and 20 other species characteristic of these outcrops. Chestnut, oak, mockernut, hickory, sweetgum and pignut hickory trees abound on the southeast facing slopes. The preserve is designated a National Natural Landmark.
