COONOOR Railway Station (Coonoor)

Built in 1897, this quaint station was the terminus of the NIlgiri Mountain Railway from June 1899 to 1908, till the extension of the railway to Ootacamund in Oct 1908. The Swiss built steam engines of this railway are homed at the Loco Shed at Coonoor, having facilities for its upkeep and maintenance, and a hand operated British crane built in 1886 is still in use here.

One should possess this copy for knowing almost completely the working of this type of railway almost in our own backyard. Pictures are superb and the links given in FB are an interesting feast to the eye.
