Once a shallow-water basin for barges either ending or starting their journey across the Erie Canal, the Ohio Basin was a geographic low-point which was dredged and flooded in 1851 to allow more dock space for barges utilizing the canal.

Home to several bulk gravel companies and a ship repair firm, the Ohio Basin was heavily used to alleviate traffic backups on the Erie Canal. After the Main and Hamburg Canal which fed into the Ohio Basin was filled in, the basin was still used for barge storage for several years before it silted in and was declared obsolete.

Remaining idle for decades, the former Ohio Basin was eventually leveled with fill and is presently the site of Conway Park.
