Sloviansk (Ukrainian: Слов'янськ, Russian: Славянск) is an administrative center of the Sloviansk Raion (district) in the Donetsk Oblast (region) of Ukraine.
Population: 109,812 (2019).
The city was founded in 1645 as a fortress named Tor, and the town of Tor grew up next to the fortress.
In 1784 the city was renamed to Sloviansk and became part of the Kharkiv Governorate of the Russian Empire in 1797.
A resort was established on the shores of the salt lake Ropne in 1832.
