200 Amsterdam Condominium

 skyscraper, condominium, postmodern (architecture), 2021_construction

668-foot, 52-story postmodern residential building completed in 2021 for SJP Properties. Designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects and CetraRuddy, the site was formerly occupied by the Lincoln Square Synagogue. The striking tower, clad in blue glass with white stone piers, is a contemporary interpretation of New York’s pre-war classics, with an Art-Deco feel. The tower is set back on a 2-story podium base with double-height metal chevron grills framing the windows in the three northern and three southern bays. The wider center bay has an inset entrance with a metal marquee at the center of the east facade.

The verticality of the upper floors is enhanced by a trio of white stone piers on the north end and south end of the east and west facades. There are five middle bays on the narrower north and south facades, each with two narrow glass panes defined by white stone piers and spandrels, and wider end bays that wrap around the corners, with banded metal spandrels. The tower features a series of setbacks on the east facade, spaced every four floors and beginning about halfway up, and culminates in a tall, glass crown with pronounced, illuminated piers, continuations of those below. The middle bays on the north and south sides decrease in number as the tower narrows gradually toward the top's stylish crown. Two of the piers on the north and south sides extend up into the north and south sides of the crown.

The building contains 112 condominium units.
