Christmas Tree Pass / Mormon Well Road

Located in the wildlife viewing area off the 95 hwy, this graded road is a great escape from the neon of Vegas. 4x4 recommended, but not really needed (unless it's raining or snowing). Once past the ranger station, a road sign directs you to the right or left (S or N). Head right for the shorter, easier route (about 75 miles back to Vegas via hwy 93). Left for longer, and much more remote route. Left will take you to Alamo NV at the end, about 75 miles to Alamo. Road to left will take you very close to Nellis test range, as well as close to some great sand dunes. Care needs to be taken on this road, as it is very remote, and if you have problems, it could be a week or more before someone comes along. Expect to take a full day.

The road to the right has much more traffic, and offers a great view of Vegas once close to top of first gravel road. Since there is an elevation change, you will move through various vegetation zones - from Joshua trees all the way to healthy pines. Can be done in about 5 hours.

  • This is not Christmas tree pass. Whoever said this was is wrong. This is the road to the National conservation area. Christmas tree pass is off highway 163 and runs between 163 and the 95 between Laughlin and Searchlight Nevada.
