The Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery is the headquarters command for Navy Medicine.

In years past, the BUMED campus served as the U.S. Naval Observatory, Washington Naval Hospital, and a medical/nursing school.
Today, BUMED is the site where the leadership for Navy Medicine is crafted and the strategic planning and policymaking to achieve that vision is carried out.
