Introduced rabbits and mice pretty much destroyed most of the endemic species found on this island (such as the Laysan Rail). Although, endangered Monk Seals and Green Sea Turtles make their home on this island, along with millions of migratory bird species such as the kolea (golden plover), ulili (wandering tattler), and kioea (bristle-thighed curlew). Nearly three-fourths of the Bonin petrels nesting in Hawai`i make this island their home. In some years, more than a million sooty terns visit Lisianski.
