A Cistercian monastery founded in 1143-46 by William Ypres, Earl of Kent, and colonized by monks from Clairvaux Abbey in France. Contained the infamous Rood of Grace, a supposedly miraculous relic which was actually a fraud. Monastery dissolved c. 1538.
