  • Many people have been successfully rescued at significant cost after crossing the crumbly spit of land onto Goat Rock itself. Use of coast guard rescue helicopters is not cheap and the water is cold enough to cause hypothermia in minutes, year round. And there are great white sharks present, thanks to the seal colony. Some people still insist on surfing at this site and the shark attacks make for great local color and ambiance, as do the corpses of dead sea lions washed up on the beach. Please note that during flood periods on the Russian River (after rainstorms), considerable driftwood can be found on the beaches for miles south of Jenner.
