Cypress is an unincorporated region of northwestern Harris County, Texas, located within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Houston along U.S. Highway 290, twenty miles northwest of downtown Houston. As of the 2010 US Census, 122,803 people lived in the zip codes designated as Cypress.

The area is often referred to as "Cy-Fair", from Cypress and Fairbanks, two communities whose volunteer fire departments merged to form the Cypress-Fairbanks Volunteer Fire Department. The area was mostly rural until the late 1970s when developers began construction of several master-planned communities. The polygon drawn here is a bit fuzzy as it's based on ZIP codes, and since it's all within the Houston ETJ (who even taxes some of the retail here accordingly). This puts Cypress in an odd position--it is not yet annexed by Houston but cannot incorporate without the consent of the city of Houston.
