An old settlement named after fruit tree, Nariyalwadi (nariyal = coconut), similar to Sitaphalwadi (custard apple) ,Angirwadi (fig) close by, an assemblage of residences, workshops, godowns and small businesses. These settlements came up after the saturation of Byculla in the late 19th century. Part of the island of MAZAGAON, the largest of the seven islands comprising Bombay (now Mumbai).
